Charles J. Reid, Jr.
holds the rank of Associate Professor of Law at
University of St. Thomas and has advanced degrees from

illuminates modern
debates over marriage including the rights and
duties spouses and children may claim within the
family unit.
Prof. Reid has published seminal articles on the
history of Rights-Thought in Medieval and Early-Modern
Europe. His article on the
Augustinian Goods of Marriage has been widely cited. He has also
written on the survival of canonistic modes of
thinking in nineteenth century America, drawing
deeply on his background as a medievalist to shed
new light on early American law of domestic
relations.
Prof. Reid has also done substantial work in the area
of Canon Law as a scholar and practitioner. His
scholarship has appeared in a number of American and
international publications. He holds the rank of Judge
in the Diocesan Tribunal of Scranton, PA. He has also
consulted on the Cases of O'Bryan et al. v.
The Holy See, and Doe v. The Holy See.
In addition to teaching, Prof Reid is presently engaged
in writing a series of works on the historical role
Christianity played in shaping the American ideal of
marriage. He lives in Minneapolis, MN with his wife and
daughter.
