Course Description: This course focuses on some of the safety, health and environment factors that influence manufacturing. Emphasis is placed on developing a practical working knowledge of these issues. Program development and management as well as the roles of regulatory agencies and the judicial system will be examined.
Learning Outcomes: At the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. Identify major safety, health, and environmental problems in the workplace. (SE1, SE5, SE7, SE9, SE15) (MS1-9) (TM1-7)
  2. Recommend potential solutions to safety, health, and environmental hazards. (SE1, SE5, SE7, SE9, SE14, SE15) (MS1-9) (TM1-7)
  3. Understand OSHA's and EPA's roles. (SE1, SE13, SE16) (MS1-9) (TM1-7)
  4. Comprehend basic interactions with various judicial systems: i.e., workers compensation, lawsuits, civil and criminal liability, etc.  (SE1, SE13, SE16) (MS1-9) (TM1-7)
Grading Policy:
Midterm Exam      33.3%
Final Exam        33.3%
Participation     33.3%
Attendance Policy: Students are expected to attend all class sessions for the entire time allocated and to participate in discussions.

Some assignments are completed in class and will not be able to be made up. Circumstances which prevent attendance will be honored up to two instances. Absences in excess of two times may result in a lower grade for the course. Contact the instructor when a special situation arises. All absences require that the instructor be informed in advance.
