Two New Courses
ETLS 699-02 Global
Materials Compliance
This course will explore the basic
elements needed by individuals involved in materials compliance matters. It
will provide students with information about activities and processes used
to ensure an organization is compliant with regulations related to
dangerous, hazardous and regulated materials. This course is taught by
Mark Guerrino, Materials Compliance Manager at 3M Company, Sourcing
Operations. He has over 35 years of work experience with 3M and has worked
in Field Service, Tech Service, Hardgoods and Electronics Support Division
and Sourcing Operations. He has worked in material compliance matters the
past 8 years and is responsible for ensuring suppliers to 3M are compliant
with corporate standards and specifications related to material compliance,
trade, and packaging.
ETLS 699-03 Power
Systems
This one-semester course is designed to
enable students to gain a thorough overview of the power grid from
generation-to-load. The power-systems information learned will provide the
foundation for more advanced study. Topics such as power generation,
transmission, conversion and dispatch will be covered. The course is
designed for both undergraduates (typically seniors) and first year graduate
students. Experiences with power systems in Moldova, Tanzania and Uganda
will also be woven into the course. For undergraduates, the University of
St. Thomas course pre-requisites are either ENGR-350 or ENGR-240; both of
which cover AC steady-state circuit analysis. Knowledge of the operating
principles of electric machines will add to the course experience. For
graduate students, pre-requisites are waived and considered on a
case-by-case basis. The text that will be used for the course is titled, “A
First Course on Power Systems” 2006 edition, by N. Mohan. Taught by
Professor Greg Mowry.
Health insurance is mandatory for all full-time students
taking 9 or more credits
This should affect only a few graduate engineering students. See
full story at

Choose a Set of Requirements
Remember that you may choose the set of requirements in place when you were
formally admitted into the degree program or any subsequent set of requirements.
You are not allowed to mix requirements or pick and choose requirements you want to
fulfill. You must completely meet one set of requirements. Check with your advisor
for more information.

Moved, Changed Jobs or E-Mail?
Make sure you contact the Student Services Office at 651-962-5756 if you change address, change
your position at work, or even change jobs. Your E-Mail address needs to be updated
whenever it changes. Update your telephone number as well whenever it changes.
It is very important that you keep these current. When classes are canceled for some
reason, it's a shame to come all the way to campus to find out it's not going to be held.
Contact us at: technology@stthomas.edu, FAX
at 651-962-6419 or call 651-962-5756. Top
