The Ouroboros

The Ouroboros is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon swallowing its own tail and forming a circle. The Ouroboros often represents self-reflexivity or cyclicality, especially in the sense of something constantly re-creating itself. This version from alchemy dates from 1478.

Welcome
to COJO 232

In this course we will try to boost your “visual literacy.” The emphasis will be on how we use visual phenomena to communicate. The message will be as important as the medium. We’ll review theories of visual communication, delve into how visual messages are made and produce a portfolio of our exploration.
