My bunk on the overnight train.

Overnight train

The overnight
train ride was full of Indian surprises

We took an overnight train to Madurai last night. I should just stop having expectations altogether because so far I have not been right ever. It is kind of fun to be surprised anyways. It is part of the adventure.

The bunks we slept in were stacked three high. Our group was all seperated in different cars which was pretty nerve racking. My train bunkmates were two older Indian men who snored to beat the band and decided to dine on very pungent Indian food in the middle of the night. I was also visited by four mice while on the train. Yikes! My first mouse encounter was on my trip back from the bathroom.

The bathroom is a whole different story in itself. Like most Indian toilets, there was a hole. The twist on the train is the added ability to literally watch the train tracks sip by beneath you. I will chalk this experience up as another Indian adventure. I feel really lucky to have experienced what many Indians know as a reality. All said, it was a rare experience.
