Why does fair trade matter?

Women processing coffee beans

Women from South America process coffee beans they
have just harvested. If this coffee is sold as fair trade
certified, these women will have increased access to
health care and education for their families.

Fair trade has been a sort of underground social movement for the last 20 years. Now, fair trade is becoming a hot topic on college campuses, in the work place and at church. People have begun to realize the importance of the goals of fair trade, as well as the movement's impact on social justice and the environment.
