Fair Trade Facts: What can you do?

Fair trade banana farmer

This banana farmer is part of the fair trade
movement, which extends to many agricultural
products besides coffee.

Other fair trade movements

Besides coffee, there are fair trade movements for products like tea, bananas, orange juice, honey and cocoa. Tea and bananas are largely grown on plantations. Fair trade organizations have developed criteria that address wages, living and working conditions of workers, the right to organize and mechanisms for profit-sharing.

It is difficult to ensure that these criteria are fulfilled on large plantations, and there has been contention involving bringing plantation-grown coffee into the fair trade movement because of the importance of land reform. To learn more about the fair trade efforts for products other than coffee, visit some of the organizations in the links section.
