A VOUS LA PAROLE 2006

December 2005

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the 2006 A Vous la Parole oral French contest. Once again thanks to the

efforts of Betsy Kerr, it will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Coffman Union on the campus

of the University of Minnesota, from 9 AM to 1:30 PM.  This date is earlier than normal years

due to a conflict with MCA testing in late April and  limited availability of Coffman Union. A Vous

la Parole is open to students of French in Grades 7 through 12 accompanied by their teachers or

representatives.  Only students of AATF members may participate. For you or your colleagues who

are not current members of AATF, this is a good opportunity to renew/join by contacting

MN-AATF treasurer LaRae Ellingson at 651-423-7501 or  larae.ellingson@district196.org.

There will again be an opening ceremony this year which will begin at 9:00 am.

On the enclosed sheet you will notice that there are a few changes in the description of categories

especially in the prose & poetry section (7th, 8th and 9th grade). Please pay close attention to the

specific information provided including time limits. For the 8th year in a row, I am able to keep

the fee per entry at $6.

Similar to previous years, certificates will be printed with names and categories, but you will

be asked to affix the stars.

In order to finalize plans for this year's event, I need to know some information regarding

approximate number of students, time limitations and video entries.  Individual students may

enter in several categories, but each entry needs to be counted separately and paid separately.

Due to limited space and time, I am still unable to grant more than 4 time slots per

category per school. That means 4 individuals in individual categories and 4 total groups

in group categories from a single school. There is also a limit of 4 entries per school in

the video category.

Many teachers gave me positive feedback regarding last year's option of registering

electronically. This year I'd like to encourage you to do all your final registrations electronically

if it is convenient for you. Please see information in the next mailing regarding how to submit

your names electronically whether it be in a spreadsheet form (preferred way) or simply in the

body of an e-mail or word document.

To receive the next mailing, you must let me know your intention to participate by

January, 27th, 2006.  You can mail the [Initial Interest]  form or e-mail the info to

avouslaparole@hotmail.com. The second mailing should arrive by early February.  At this

point I do not need to know how many entries you will have in particular categories (just keep

in mind that the limit is 4 per category as you are assigning them to your students) nor do

I need any student names. For those of you who have never participated before, here is a

synopsis of the process:

by Friday, January 27th --- you send the enclosed form or e-mail me regarding your school's initial

interest in participating

early February  --- those who responded above will receive info regarding registering students

Friday, February 24th --- this is when finalized entries are due– you provide me student names,

specific categories entered AND this is also the date by which video/DVD entries need to be sent in

about 10 days prior to the contest -- you receive all master judging sheets, last minute instructions

in the mail

March 14th, 2006 --- see you at the competition!

As always, I look forward to your participation and to the success of the 2006

A Vous la Parole.
