Primary Responsibilities:

Maintain daily Haus order/light facility management

Other general office administration and staff support

The College of St. Scholastica invites applications for a tenure-track
faculty position in the Department of Languages and International Studies
(LIS). The successful candidate will be expected to teach a spectrum of
undergraduate language, literature, and culture courses in both German and
Russian, assume academic advising duties, participate in faculty governance,
and assist with the current exchange programs.

The Department of Languages and International Studies offers courses in
Spanish, French, German, Russian, Ojibwe, Latin, and American Sign Language.
In addition to minors in French, German, Spanish, and Russian, the
Department currently offers majors in both International Studies and
Spanish. It has a long-standing and successful exchange program with the
Karelian State Pedagogical University in Petrozavodsk, Duluth's sister city
in Russia, as well as a short term exchange program with Leipzig, Germany.
Philosophically, the Department embraces the study of languages and culture
as a way to promote peace, justice, and understanding in a diverse world.  

The College of St. Scholastica is a comprehensive, coeducational,
Benedictine college with programs in the liberal arts and sciences and in

GERMAN ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR NEEDED AT HAMLINE UNIVERSITY

The Modern Languages department at Hamline University is currently seeking an adjunct instructor to teach "Intermediate German II" in Spring 2010, with a possibility of continued part-time employment in the future.

The course schedule and description are as follows:

M W F  10:20 am - 11:20 am

(There is a Tues/Thurs lab which is taught by a Language Assistant under the supervision of the instructor.  Under normal circumstances, the instructor need not attend the lab sessions.)

Goals: To review all topics of German grammar and to enhance all the skills required for proficiency.

Content: Readings in German, exercises in grammar and vocabulary building; equal emphasis on speaking, understanding the spoken language, writing, and reading.

St. Louis Park Schools is currently in search of a high-energy, enthusiastic German teacher.

Our district has a strong and expanding 7-12 German program. The junior high feeder program currently has about 145 kids in grades 7 and 8. Required/Preferred Qualifications       REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: M.A. degree or foreign equivalent or ABD in German, Foreign Language Education, or a related field. Two years of post secondary teaching experience in German. Native or near native fluency in German. Demonstration of commitment to quality teaching and program development.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. degree or foreign equivalent in German, Foreign Language Education, or a related field. A strong background (e.g., coursework, publications) in foreign language education or second language acquisition is preferred. Positive evaluations from students, peers and/or supervisors.

Applicants with a M.A. will be appointed as Teaching Specialists. Those with a Ph.D. will be appointed at a Lecturer level.
Duties/Responsibilities         The Department of German, Scandinavian and Dutch maintains a pool of part-time lecturers and teaching specialists to teach lower-division German language skills courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate teaching assistants. Openings of this kind occur for teaching evening, Summer Session, and day courses. Duties include teaching undergraduate or graduate students in assigned course(s); holding office hours to assist and advise students; and participating in relevant departmental training and meetings. These positions are contingent upon student enrollment, performance, and availability of funding. Appointments can be for the academic year (8/31/09 to 5/30/10), semester-by-semester: fall (8/31/09 to 01/13/10), or spring (1/14/10 to 5/30/10) or for summer term. These positions are temporary and part-time. Salaries for 2009/10 will be approximately $6,000 per five-credit course.

The Germanic-American Institute in St. Paul is looking to start a satellite program of adult German classes in Rochester, MN. Class meets once a week for 2 hrs, 12 weeks per quarter. The curriculum is immersion-style, geared for adults learning Deutsch als Fremdsprache.

The preferred instructor is a native speaker with experiencing and training teaching German or another foreign language. Fluent non-natives with proven successful teaching experience will also be considered. 

This is a contractor position. Compensation range is $28-$32/instructional hour.

The GAI is organizing our summer, 1/2-day Germany language camps for elementary kids.

This is a great summer opportunity for German teachers, as it allows for plenty of playful, creative learning with younger children.
 Compensation: $500/week

 Lead Teachers develop the curriculum around a theme and act lead instructor for a 1-week, morning language camp

Examples of previous themes includes Abenteuer im Mittelalter , das Leben der Wikinger , die Umwelt und ich ,   German Safari ,  and Piraten .  The camp could also be organized around a topic such as Märchen , science, or architecture…any subject that lends itself well to interactive learning, creativity, and fun while introducing the German language.

The U.S. Department of Education seeks qualified individuals
interested in reviewing applications for the Foreign Language
Assistance Program. These reviewers will independently read and
evaluate applications submitted to the Department.

Qualifications:

· Recent experience in an institution of higher education
preparing teachers to teach foreign languages in elementary or
secondary U.S. public schools, or

· Recent experience in an institution of higher education
administering a program that prepares teachers to teach foreign
languages in elementary or secondary U.S. public schools, or

· Recent experience teaching foreign languages in an
elementary or secondary U.S. public school, or

· Recent experience administering foreign language programs in
a local educational agency or a state educational agency.

· Must have the ability to use technology to complete reviews.

The Department is particularly interested in recruiting individuals
with experience in an institution of higher education preparing
teachers to teach foreign languages or administering a program that
prepares teachers to teach foreign languages, but will consider other
foreign language education experience.

Tentative Reading Period: Mid-May, 2009
