Birth in Frankfurt am Main, Germany of Hans Fischer, physician and professor of medical chemistry at the University of Munich. Fischer won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1930 for research on hemin in blood and chlorophyll in plants.

Death of Emil Theodor Kocher in Bern, Switzerland. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1909 for his work on the thyroid gland.
